What does your number mean on a Monday?

Half a million a year is a figure on a page. Eleven jobs a month is a week you can picture. This turns one into the other.

This is turnover, not what you keep. Quotes it takes to win one is your own estimate, and it is the figure most trades are furthest out on — move it a point either way and watch what happens to the quotes you have to write.

A year is where goals go to hide

Nobody wakes up and does a year. Half a million sits out there on the horizon looking reasonable right up until December, because a figure that size never has to be done on a Tuesday.

Cut it into months and it stops being a wish. Eleven jobs a month is either your normal week or it plainly is not, and you know which within a second of seeing it. That is the whole use of this page.

Then it goes one step further back. Jobs come from quotes, and not every quote is won. If it takes three quotes to land one, eleven jobs is thirty-three quotes written, sent and followed up. That is the number that actually fills a diary.

What to do with the number

If the jobs a month is close to what you already do, the goal is a tightening job, not a growth one. Better quotes, faster follow-up, a few more of the bigger jobs and fewer of the ones that eat a day.

If it is double what you do now, no amount of tightening gets there. Something has to change in where the work comes from.

And if the quotes a month is more than you could physically write, the answer is the job value, not the job count. Fewer, larger jobs beat a diary you cannot service.

This runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere and nothing is stored.

What it deliberately leaves out

What you keep. This is turnover. Materials, wages and the ute come out of it, and the goal that matters to your household is what is left, not what goes through the account.

Seasons. Trades are not flat across twelve months, and a wet autumn has to be made up somewhere. An even split is the honest starting point, not the finish.

Where the quotes come from. This page can tell you that you need thirty-three quotes a month. It cannot tell you how many people have to find you for that to happen — that depends on your suburb, your trade and what a customer sees when they search. We can look at that part with you.

A number you set is worth more than one you are given

Once the month is on paper, every bit of marketing has something to be measured against. We can show you what a customer sees when they search for your trade in your suburb, and what it would take to close the gap.
