Why the date matters

A customer can’t see your edit dates, but they can see what they mean: last year’s prices, a service you stopped doing, a phone number that rings out. Google can see the dates, and a site that never changes gives it nothing new to show anyone.

It is also the one finding nobody can argue with. A ranking moves from day to day. The date your own site last changed is written on your own server.

Where the dates come from

Most trade websites are built on WordPress, and WordPress records the date every page and post was last saved. It publishes that list openly at a standard address on your site. This check reads that list, for every kind of page your site has (services, team pages, blog posts and the rest), not just the pages menu.

If your site isn’t on WordPress, or has that list switched off, we can’t read the dates, and the check says so plainly. It never guesses a number from weaker clues.

What it deliberately leaves out

Your Google Business Profile and your social pages. Google doesn’t publish when a profile was last posted to, so it can only be read by eye. The free audit does that.

A site that keeps up

The free audit looks at the whole picture: where you come up on Google, who is above you, and what a customer sees when they find you.
